Medical assistants are an integral part of the healthcare team, and medical assisting is one of the fastest growing occupations. In fact, employment of medical assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2010 -- a projected increase of at least 57% as predicted by US Department of Labor. CIT's Medical Assisting program provides skills that enable you to be as capable in the front office as you are in the examining room.

This program is designed to provide a complete education in the Medical Assistants Field. The emphasis on administrative and clinical skills includes extensive instruction in medical terminology, medical insurance billing, medical office procedures, medical clinical procedures, as well as instruction in beginning medical transcription, basic anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology. In addition, a medical office management class is offered to increase the student's skills in standard management duties and patient information protection and privacy. Students will be instructed in various medical-related software to include data protection and transmission. A 60-hour externship is included.

In addition, you will receive instruction with various software application for the preparation of medical documents and reports, essential medical terminology, patient scheduling, medical billing and coding, medical laws and ethics, and filing patient records. The program grooms you for positions such as Clinical Medical Assistant, Lab Assistant, or Patient Services Representative.

Program Length: 39 weeks (Weekday Schedule) 47 Weeks (Weekend Schedule) or 740 Clock Hours (Presented in 4-hour classes 5 nights per week OR in 8-hour classes 2 days per weekend)
